I Am A Writer
When I was in 3rd grade, our teacher asked us to write a story. She said it had to be at least a page long, but could be longer. I turned in a 9-page science fiction story called “Seeds of Horror,” about plants from another planet that have intelligence and mobility and threaten to take over the Earth. The planet is saved by the accidental actions of a young boy who gets whipped by his father for what he does.
I’ve been writing ever since. I wrote for the Daniel Webster Junior High School Newspaper and for the UCLA Daily Bruin. Later, I self-published a book for sleight-of-hand magicians and another book for people interested in investigating the paranormal and occult called How to Avoid Psychic Fraud. After years of teaching courses in real magick, I decided to offer what I taught as a mail-order course of 52 brief lessons modeled after the style of the lessons used by the AMORC Rosicrucians. Before I could finish, I was asked to change that into longer lessons. Before I could finish that, the person who wanted to offer those lessons went out of business!
At the time, I was sharing a 2-bedroom apartment with Scott Cunningham, who was just beginning to make a name for himself as a Pagan author. So after years of study and years of teaching, and two attempts to turn what I was teaching into a viable written tool, I followed Scott’s model and turned it into a book. I was very fortunate that it was picked up by Scott’s publisher, Llewellyn. That was the genesis of Modern Magick.
Since that time I have written hundreds of thousands of words. I was the editor of FATE magazine. i wrote introductions to books such as Planetary Magick by Denning and Phillips, The Rabbi’s Tarot by Daphna Moore, and The Encyclopedia of Magic and Alchemy by Rosemary Guilley. I have written chapters for books including various volumes of The Golden Dawn Journal and Dr. Jonn Mumford’s Ecstasy Through Tantra. I’ve written articles for various magazines, newspapers, and journals, including Llewellyn’s free on-line Journal.

You’ll also notice that there are two versions available of Modern Magick. The current, 2nd edition, is the one that everyone knows and has become a classic, with over 150,000 copies sold! However, a new edition is scheduled to be available in September, 2010. It’s completely revised and expanded by about 40% with new information, a new chapter, new art, and much more. I can’t tell you how excited I am over this entirely new Modern Magick!
I’m not stopping there! I already have lots of other books planned and I’m working on them. I’m going to have more on magick, a book on hypnosis and...well, you’ll just have to wait and see! In the meantime, look through the linked pages and discover what I’ve written.
